1. Hue & Saturation

The commencement tried-and-true style to recolor your objects is to use the hue and saturation layer. To do this, simply get to your adjustments panel and add a Hue/Saturation layer. Toggle the box that says "Colorize" and start adjusting the hue to the specific color y'all desire. If your object is a lighter shade, you may need to adapt the lightness by making your option darker to get the richness of color yous want. The same goes for the reverse: if you have a darker object you demand to colorize, pump in some light to those darker areas by increasing your lightness.Lastly, play around with the saturation to get the desired effect you lot desire. Typically, the lighter the object, the more I need to saturate my colour. If my object is darker, then a college saturation looks unrealistic. Encounter what works best for the object you're coloring. One time you're satisfied with the color, apply your castor on the layer mask to paint the areas where you don't want the color change to happen.

Pros:

The reason why I love this approach is because it's non-subversive and easily changeable.

Cons:

Yous need to be conscientious when it comes to changing rich, saturated colors, particularly blood-red. You may get some strange outlines/color banding in your shadow areas, so only exist mindful of that.

2. Colour layer

This is a neat culling to the Hue/Saturation layer.Go to Layer > New Fill up Layer > Solid Colour... and click OK on the card that pops up. This will bring upward the Color Picker menu.Cull what color you'd similar to make your object. This conclusion doesn't take to be final, considering you lot can hands change information technology later :) What's prissy well-nigh creating a Color Fill is that it automatically creates a mask for that layer. Click on that mask and showtime to paint the areas you don't want to be affected. Once everything looks good, set your layer blend mode to Color and you're finished! Sometimes duplicating the layer too helps reach the rich color you're looking for.

Pros:

It'southward a fabulous way to get some colors that may be difficult to achieve in Hue/Saturation due to the shadow banding.

Cons:

This method doesn't piece of work well with all colors and the outcome can be somewhat unpredictable at times, depending on the color y'all choose and the colour of your object.

This is a great option if you want to target a specific colour in an intricate image. In your layers panel, create a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Instead of colorizing the layer as we did before, nosotros're going to go to the dropdown menu that currently says "Chief" and select the specific color we'd similar to target. In this image, I desire to change the blue packet to majestic—but painting around all those intricate design elements on the bag would be pretty fourth dimension consuming. In my Hue/Saturation console, I'm going to drop downward to the Cyans, then the only colors I'k changing are those within that cyan range. Make up one's mind what color y'all desire to change and select the option that best fits information technology.Bring your saturation all the way to -100 then you tin clearly run across what colors are being affected. You may need to play around with the color bar at the bottom to refine the color choice. Simply drag it so the middle part of the bar is over the color y'all'd like to change.Once the colour you want to modify in your image is completely gray, bring your saturation back up to 0. Anddd hither's the fun part: start adjusting your Hue slider until it's the verbal color you want—and that's information technology!

Pros:

This is a great selection for more than intricate color selections you lot don't desire to manually mask.

Cons:

This method won't work well if you have lots of similar colors inside an image, equally it will affect them all.

4. Using the brush tool & Hue blending mode

Load your brush with the color you'd like. Set your brush Period to 30% and on a new layer, start brushing in the areas where you desire the color. If you painted where you didn't want color, that'south fine. Y'all can either erase it, or what I prefer to exercise, is create a mask so that information technology'southward non-destructive and I can easily get back. To do this, but click the button at the bottom of your layers console that has a circle inside a rectangle. Once everything looks the fashion you desire it, alter your layer's blending mode to Hue and voila!

Pros:

It'southward super piece of cake and quick to go an accurate color you desire.

In the carte du jour, toggle betwixt the different color channels and simply elevate that line where you want it. The higher you the elevate the indicate up, the more of that color you lot'll see. For example, if we're in the blood-red palette and I drag it up, my object volition exist more than red. If I drag that point downwardly, then information technology'll exist the contrary: dark-green. As with the other methods, yous can create a mask on this layer and paint the areas yous don't want to exist affected.

Pros:

This is slap-up for adding a overnice, natural tint and brightness/darkness to a color chop-chop.

Cons:

Don't expect to make sweeping colour changes without severely affecting the quality of your prototype as well much.
